The Office of the Vice President for Research and Global Relations (VPRGR) is committed to promoting a culture of excellence in research; building linkages and partnerships; empowering colleges to undertake collaborative research; prioritizing infrastructure upgrade of strategic programs; protecting intellectual property; and tapping new revenue streams from entrepreneurial activities through research and consulting services thereby meeting client satisfaction.
VPRGR is clustered into service units and research centers with the aim of offering technical support and research expertise. The four (4) service units are: (1) Research and Publication Services (RPS) offers plagiarism and grammar check of manuscripts and documents using technology-based quality assurance; research ethics review; statistical services; biosafety training and certification; publication of Augustinian, Scientific Augustinian, and Compendium of Research Abstracts; research performance incentives and seed grant for employees; and the Gregor Mendel Award to recognize employee excellence in R&D, (2) Gregor Mendel Research Laboratory (GMRL) caters to the research needs of science and technology students and faculty members through thesis consultations, laboratory equipment training, and assistance in the use of state-of-the-art instruments, (3) Magnetic Resonance Facility (MagRF) offers support for structure elucidation, targeted drug binding studies, food quality control, and bioactive extract profiling using cryoprobe nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer; and (4) Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) focuses on protecting and managing the University’s intellectual property assets, facilitating the application process for copyrights, trademarks, patents, utility models, and industrial designs and supporting their commercialization, and providing capacity-building programs related to intellectual property.
The five (5) research centers are: (1) Center for Chemical Biology and Biotechnology (C2B2): the hub of life science, chemical biology, and marine biotechnology research, (2) Center for Advanced New Materials, and Emerging Technologies (CANMEET): the material science, nanotechnology, and smart packaging research center, (3) Center for Informatics (CFI): the data science research center for public health, environment, climate, and governance, (4) Center for Heritage and Indigenous Cultures (CHIC): focuses on the preservation and enrichment of Filipino cultural, heritage, and indigenous identity as well as Augustinian heritage, and (5) Center for Natural Drug Discovery and Development (CND3): the home of DOST Tuklas Lunas® Development Center in Western Visayas that focuses on drug discovery and standardized products from agricultural commodities.
